Production routings

A production routing is the header of a transformation alternative. It identifies which output material can be made at a location and under which routing code. Its routing operations separately state which resources that alternative occupies and at which rate.

One row identifies one routing.

Field Meaning
Routing Id Stable routing identifier.
Description Name of the manufacturing process.
Location Id Location where the process is executed.
Output Material Id Material produced by the routing.
Base Quantity Output quantity used as the basis for every operation duration in this routing.
Base Quantity UOM Unit of measure for the base quantity.
Routing can be used without production version Whether the routing can be planned without a production-version link.
Priority Used only by the heuristic to define the sequence in which routings are considered; it is ignored by the optimizer.
Active (true/false or 1/0) Whether the routing can be used by planning.

Load the header before its operations. A routing used together with a BOM is linked by a production version, which makes the alternative available for a material at a location.

Routing, resource, and productivity

The routing header does not consume capacity by itself. Each operation associates the routing with a productive resource — for example, a production line, mold, or labor resource — and records that resource's productivity. One routing can have one or more operations and therefore occupy several resources.

The routing defines Base Quantity and Base Quantity UOM once. Each operation then states how long its resource takes to process that base output through Operation Duration and Time Unit. For example, a routing with a base of 8 TON and an operation duration of 2 H represents productivity of 4 TON/hour for that resource. Units must be compatible with the output material.

Produce without modelling capacity

Still register the routing header when the material can be produced, but do not load operations when the plan must not constrain or occupy lines, molds, or labor. No productive resources or availability need to be registered for that alternative: production remains possible but does not consume productive capacity.
